Vauth-Sagel: More than 550 tonnes less CO2 per year with the new lighting management system

23 octubre, 2014

Vauth-Sagel has now had its environmental management system certified and its energy management system.

These certificates, At all four of its German production sites, are a commitment to the Sagel family – owners of Vauth-Sagel – to both tap into further unexploited energy efficiency potentials and to further lower the impact on the environment. The first example of this is the Paderborn site, whose new lighting management system saves more than 50 percent of the energy requirements and simultaneously offers twice the workplace lighting for employees.

Vauth-Sagel: More than 550 tonnes less CO2 per year with the new lighting management system

The effectiveness of the production process plays a decisive role in the global competitiveness of high-wage Germany. For many decades now, the owner-run family group of Vauth-Sagel companies has been taking on this challenge and the associated continual increase in effectiveness. To this end, sustainable, entrepreneurial conduct and the associated conscientious treatment of nature have been the focus of activities. Furthermore, the objective audits in accordance with ISO standards have been matter-of-fact at Vauth-Sagel for many, many years now, hence additionally underlining the high quality standards of the company’s ‘Made in Germany’ production.

Multiple award winners and certified
In addition to the established ISO certification 9001 (quality management system), the Vauth-Sagel Group has now been successfully certified in accordance with EN ISO 14001 (environmental management system) and DIN EN ISO 50001 (energy management system) at all four of its German sites. These both certify and simultaneously audit the effectiveness of the introduced and implemented measures and promote the exploitation of hitherto untapped energy efficiency potentials.

Preserving natural resources is a central concern for us as a family committed to nature. For many years now, we have been carrying out construction measures that lower the energy consumption at our production facilities and have as minimal an impact on the environment as possible, for example. Currently, we are replacing virtually the entire machine park at our Paderborn site with new, resource-preserving plastic injection moulding systems, comments Thomas Sagel, Managing Director and shareholder of the Vauth-Sagel holding company. We view our sustainability-oriented corporate culture, our ISO certifications and further certificates such as LGA and FSC as investments into the successful future of our sites in East Westphalia and North Hesse. Furthermore, our commitment represents added value that customers throughout the world can profitably exploit for themselves, states Thomas Sagel.

First energy saving pilot project already successfully implemented
At its Paderborn site, Vauth-Sagel has successfully implemented a pilot project, which will be extended to the company’s three other plants over the next few months. The focus of the the project is the equipping of the plants with new, high-performance but energy-saving hall lighting system. This will save more than 50 percent in energy for the Paderborn production facilities, while almost doubling the brightness of the lighting itself. This investment is not just benefiting the company, it is also helping each and every employee in their everyday work at the site. And the investment is having a particularly positive impact on the environment: around 250 tonnes less CO2 is being emitted at the Paderborn facilities alone.

Projected for the entire group, this means a saving of more than one Gigawatt hour per year, which corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of around 300 households. In total, the company is striving toward reducing CO2 emissions for the entire group by more than 550 tonnes each year. We were actually quite surprised by just how much energy we have been able to save while simultaneously increasing the lighting output. This has encouraged, and obliged, us to extend the successful pilot project at the Paderborn site to our three other sites in Germany, adds Thomas Sagel.
