The firm works as a partner company of the XIII Biennial of Spanish Architecture and Urbanism (BEAU), giving its support to the best architecture developed over the last two years in Spain.
The exhibition displays a total of 89 works which are outstanding for their proposals of different ways of dealing with problems currently faced by architecture and urbanism in an era of landscape renovation and renewal of urban spaces and buildings. The current edition of the BEAU acknowledges the talent of those architects who have contributed intelligent, ingenious and innovative building solutions with limited resources. They have included in their projects concepts such as economy of resources, adaptation to local conditions and resources, recycling, building on what has already been built, social transference and collective participation.
The 89 outstanding works are classified according to different categories:
– 22 architectural projects in the categories of Heritage and Transformation; and Urbanism: Landscape and City. Of these 22 winners, the Jury selected the work submitted by 15 architects competing for Spain in the X Ibero-American Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism (BIAU).
– 15 projects in the Research section. Likewise, the work of dissemination of 32 publications, exhibitions, articles and blogs was also acknowledged.
– 20 Final year degree projects. The aforementioned presentation took place yesterday at the unique location of the Palace of Charles V of the Alhambra in Granada, in the presence of a number of representatives of prestigious renown in the world of Spanish architecture, including Begoña Díaz-Urgorri, architect and co- director of the XIII BEAU, Juan Domingo Santos, architect and co-director of the XIII BEAU, Carmen Moreno Alvarez, architect and co-director of the XIII BEAU and Francisco Mangado, General Coordinator of the Biennials.
With the intention of showing the works in an informative manner, the exhibition is also accompanied by an audiovisual display, which includes images of diverse aspects of architecture and urbanism in relation to their context, the architectural space and their material form, along with testimonies from the architects who are the authors the works, and the citizens and users who inhabit them.
The exhibition will be installed at the Alhambra until 12 October; thereafter, the exhibition Alternativas/Alternatives will be itinerant, and the contemporary architecture of our country will be on view in other cities of the world, such as New York.
The Palace of Charles V of the Alhambra in Granada also hosted, at a gala held yesterday evening, an awards ceremony for the 22 architectural projects in the categories of Heritage and Transformation; and Urbanism: Landscape and City. The event was attended by Mr. Francisco Javier Martin, Deputy Director General of Architecture, Housing and Land at the Department of Architecture of the Ministry of Development.
The Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (BEAU) has postulated once again as a great opportunity to reveal to society the world of architecture in a closer manner and outside the usual spheres. The Cosentino Group proudly adds its name to this initiative to underwrite the creative talent of new Spanish architecture, a talent which crosses borders and which was recently awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennial XV.
